This is a VLOG based on reflecting on the responses I had to my post on Facebook….
The post from Facebook:
THE FALLACY OF THE MORAL HIGH GROUND
Looking back at photos today after Why had a particularly bad day with his spondylosis and I was reminded of the sassy JOY that he exudes when he searches…. and I was missing trialing with my buddy pretty fiercely. Then I read something on Facebook that given my journey with my boy, it was something that I should have connected with… yet it left me feeling… icky.
It was a post that was yet another rendition of “I am not in it for the ribbons.” Well of course! I am not in it for the ribbons either! So why does that sentiment bother me so much? I mean after all, Why “only” earned an Elite Champion and never had an overall placement… surely I could not have enjoyed that nearly as much as getting High in Trial in a Summit? (she said sarcastically)
The issue I have with it is that when we take a moral high ground with irrefutable statements that are meant to invoke guilt, we handcuff ourselves to the lens of our soapbox and we stop dealing in truths and honesty.
What IS a Truth?
The interesting thing is that a Truth has no judgement… it’s merely just Correct and Honest. And it’s something that we can work with. Truth is Honesty.
It MAY be true that your purpose is NOT ribbons… but as soon as the sentiment is uttered to someone who might have a different perspective, that utterance ceases to be truth and becomes judgement. When we have judgement, we block growth and it changes our mindset. It actually CHEAPENS our truth….
Why was never going to be a “winner” with lots of placements and blue ribbons… but the truth of WHY I trialed my little boy is something that is between him and me… and it’s the bedrock of our relationship. Had I turned that into a moral high ground, it would have robbed the little whispered secret between that fluffy butt boy and me by handing it to others to feed guilt and self doubt.
This post is NOT about whether or not you are in this for the “right” reasons or whether your performance is good enough. Our truths are all very different, unique, special, and VERY personal. This post is about safeguarding your own truth rather than uttering it as a moral high ground. This post is about the difference between Truth and Judgement. It’s about Honesty.
When we work in Truth, we can fulfill our potential. Let’s face it… It probably is NOT a High in Trial in Summit. Potential though is about being the best you can be and striding forward… Honestly. Judgement hides self doubt and insecurity.
My challenge to you all is to embrace your own truth and to read with an eye of “is this judgement in disguise? Is this statement truly HONEST?

Stacy, the exuberant pride and joy in this photo of Why’s accomplishment with you in his journey to ELT-CH, reflects the honesty within my own heart of the goals I enjoy with my Schipperkes. As beautiful as the ribbons are, earned at any level, it’s the lasting reality of enjoying the time together that matters!
Being misunderstood is difficult and having one’s motives mischaracterized doubly so. Like so many, I follow your posts and enroll in your webinars not simply because of your expertise. What I enjoy most is your appreciation of purity–that beautiful connection with my dog this sport builds. Thank you for all you are and all you do.
